The cool school plunge is next Thursday at Sandy Point State park in Annapolis.  There is still time to join our team if you would like to be a part of this cool event!  See Mrs. Brown in M226 to get your packet to sign up today until Friday.  Friday is the last day to join so we can get a final count and have permission slips turned in.

Ms. Taylor in guidance: 

Morgan State University is coming to Glen Burnie High School on January 24th to do ON SITE Admissions to their school.  This is a great opportunity for you, so make sure to mark your calendar. If you are interested, you must see your counselor or Ms. Taylor to sign up. On the day of the visit, you must have already filled out the application online, have your SAT or ACT scores, and a copy of your transcript.  Don’t wait, start the process, plan your future now.

From Ms. Carr:  

Attention GBHS student body:  The Multicultural Movie Night has been rescheduled to Tuesday, January 23rd, 2018 from 2:30pm to 4:30pm.

There is still time to purchase tickets.

Tickets are only $5.00. The $5.00 tickets includes complimentary pizza, a bag of chips, a treat, and a drink, all while you relax with friends and watch a pleasant film! There is also an opportunity to earn extra credit in your language class by attending this event!

This event is meant to promote diversity, and the joy of learning a language in the GBHS community. Please hurry to purchase your ticket(s), so you can get your movie language preference. We hope you’ll join us for an evening at the cinema. All movies will feature subtitles.

Requirements to attend:

  • Students who earn perfect attendance from, 1/16 – 2/14 will be given a pass to attend as a spectator for the event.  Perfect attendance requires no absences, no tardies, no early dismissals. This is for PERFECT ATTENDANCE!
  • OR Students who earn a PBR for the 2nd MP will be given a pass to attend as a spectator for the event.
  • Students who attend MUST have NO REFERRALS

Want to play…

  • Students who wish to play in the event CANNOT be volleyball players on Varsity or JV teams.  Students need to have outstanding attendance, no referrals and CANNOT have any D’s or E’s on their 2nd MP report card.
  • Students on the Varsity or JV Volleyball team that would like to serve as faculty or student team coach should see Ms. Blessing.

From Shelby Jones: 

Attention Gophers! ​Did you want to try our student yoga class but missed out on it the first time? No problem! Ms. Jones has 3 ways for you to add yoga to your schedule this year. 

Option 1- Sign up for the after school Stretch Your Wellness class on Tuesdays and Thursdays for .5 PE credits. The deadline to sign up for this class is January 30th! 

Option 2- Come to the Yoga and Mindfulness Club on the first and third Monday of each month during second semester. The interest meeting is February 5th.

Option 3- Sign up for the Stretch Your Wellness as a day time class next year. Tell your counselor you’re interested when you sign up for classes! This class will give you .5 PE credits towards graduation.

Are you struggling with a topic in class? Do you know someone who is? Do you have a student that needs a little extra help? Drop by for NHS tutoring from one of our members. They will help you with any topic needed and when you are available to stay after. Get a pass from your teacher or pick one up in the media center next to the NHS Tutoring box.

From Ms. Voll:

Unified Bowling had their second match of the season on 1/19/18 against Southern High. Your Rolling Gophers improved on last week’s best team average to a new best team average of 140. Athlete Keith Rebstock had a high score of 142 while athlete Henry Holmes added a 132. Our partners improved their high score with a 165 from Branden McGuire and a 161 from Wyatt Griffith. Come cheer us on at our last regular season match on Friday 1/26 down at Greenway Bowl.

From Mr. Moreland:

The Glen Burnie High Tennis Team will have an informational meeting after school on Thursday, January 25th at 2:30. The meeting will be held in Coach Moreland’s room- M126A. All returning players and any interested new players should attend. No experience necessary to play! Come discover your skills with the swingin’ gophers!​

From Senior Class President, Jeremiah Thomas: 

You only have 8 more days to order your cap and gown.  The deadline is January 31.  If you have any conflict with purchasing your cap and gown, please see Ms. Addison ASAP in Room I-107B.
