Orchestra

The Glen Burnie High School Orchestra consists of members from 9-12 and is led by Director Chris McMahan. The Orchestra program is part of our outstanding Music Department at GBHS. The Orchestra provides an excellent opportunity for our string players to develop the skills needed for a high level of musicianship and performance. Members participate in all activities including the spring trip, Glen Burnie Gala, and spring and winter concert performances.

Color Guard

The GBHS Color Guard utilizes elements of dance, flag and rifle skills, and drill to provide a visual interpretation of the music performed by the marching band at home football games, pep rallies, parades, and competitions throughout Maryland. Color guard participates in both outdoor (fall) and indoor (spring) activities.

Winter Guard

During the winter season, the color guard performs as a separate ensemble, Winter Guard at competitive competitions throughout Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Similar to the fall season, color guard utilizes the same equipment, dance, and cisualization techniques while performing to recorded music at indoor facilities.

Competitions are held on Saturdays throughout the second semester. The season finale includes a four-day competition trip to Wildwood, New Jersey where students compete in the All Chapter Championships, Weekend at Wildwood.

Winter guard is an after-school, extra curricular activity and does not receive course credit.

Indoor Percussion

Tryouts are held in early December with the ensemble beginning rehearsals in January. Competitions are held on Saturdays throughout the second semester.
